Chief Stanley Lickey Appreciation Day

Chief Stanley Lickey

Philomont Volunteer Fire Department

When I first became a firefighter in Loudoun County, my grandfather, "Big Jim" Anderson, told me my first trip was to visit the Philomont store. I would find a Fire Chief there, and he was someone I should meet and get to know.
So one day I took Big Jim for a ride to Philomont - [Big Jim was a charter "Fire Control" dispatcher, 1 of the first 4 dispatchers in Loudoun when the Fire Control office was formed.]
When we got there, I found an amazing opportunity - Chief Lickey not only had fascinating stories just like my grandfather, Big Jim, but he had Dreamsicles!  - MY FAVORITE! And so began, "Stanley's Store" - a legend of the west end, a place to go and feel wanted and appreciated, and a place to begin learning how to be a Fire Chief!

I learned very early in my career as a firefighter - if you want to be the best - take the best of each Chief and President and firefighter that you know and that are successful at their positions, put those qualities in your helmet, then put your helmet on your head, and learn by osmosis! You will absorb what you learn, learn to use it in your growth as an officer, and become the best you can be!

When I became a Fire Marshal under Chief Dube' I ALWAYS made it a point to go by whenever possible!

YES! I always got a Dreamsicle (that's orange and vanilla ice cream on a popsicle stick for those of you who have not had the good fortune to have one!).
But I could always depend on good conversation, the latest in the pros and cons of Fire Rescue, and the lifetime friendship of Chief Lickey!

When you see the photos here, you will realize:

Chieef Lickey was loved and appreciated by everyone...

He is a father, a husband, a friend, a leader, and a HUGE part of the Philomont history - from the Philomont Store to the Philomont Fire Department.

"Thanks for being there and caring for all of us Chief!"
