Touchdowns for Tommy Alumni game

The loss of any child is devasting to the family, friends, and anyone who cares about life.
But when it strikes near you or directly affects you, it is even more of a loss.
It happened when Park View High School Patriot graduate and former football player Andy Marshall,  lost his 2 year old son to SUDC - Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood - the over 1 year version of SIDS...
Thomas was a happy and wonderful child who went to sleep one night and never woke up. No one knows why!

TOUCDOWNS for TOMMY is in memory of Tommy and to raise awareness of the SUDC  research that may someday find out why it happens and so that no child will suffer that tragic loss of  life's experience and parents the loss and pain of losing a child.

The brainstorm for this fundriser was led by LCHS Coach Cary Vipon and others who worked with him has opened an exciting new page to add to
LCHS and Park View High Schools histories!

On a perfect football weather night, October 1st, 2009, at Loudon County High School in Leesburg, Va., alumni players and coaches from both schools got together for what we hope will be an annual tradition:

"TOUCHDOWNS FOR TOMMY"

Four - 12 minute quarters of 9-on-9 flag football by those alumni who played for their high school but are now out in real life becoming examples of what a good education and life are all about!

The games was exciting! The game was fun! Money was raised to donate to the SUD agency working to find out the causes and hopefully a cure for those wonderful children who never have the chance to grow up and love and enjoy life at it's fullest.

Many of the players who never met each other, played in different generations, and  were in different graduate years, showed how teamwork, the love of football, and the love for a worthwhile cause can bring out the best in everyone!

The daughter of Coach McManus (who coached the LCHS alumni team) was taking photos at the field - I asked if she could shoot some photos during the action for me... WOW! Thanks to her efforts we have those actions photos taken by her! The other pictures I took throughout the pregame and postgame - what a joy to look at and remember in the future.
I hope you enjoy them as much as all of us did that night.

And yes, it appears that as the LCHS class of 66 gradute, I was the oldest player still moving around the ball field!!!!

WOW!  It was a great  feeling that night, I was still able to kick PAT's for LCHS 4 1/2 decades later and it made me feel GREAT that night! The next morning my body said:

"WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU!!!" ARE YOU CRAZY?"

Certainly... and loved every minute of it!

Thanks Cary, and all of those who played and coached - you made me one of those people who had a wonderful night!

As an extra special honor that night we also played to honor the memory of the wife of LCHS Alumni, Antoine Lucas, who recently lost his lovely wife, Monica,  to cancer - and he now raises their 4 beautiful children and reminds them of the wonderful mother who will not to see her children grow to be successful adults like their parents.
Both she and Tommy now rest in God's hands and will forever be remembered in the minds of all who knew and loved them.
NOT THAT IT MATTERS MUCH:

BUT THE FINAL SCORE WAS:

PARK VIEW 21           LOUDOUN COUNTY 19

NEXT YEAR - RE-MATCH TIME!!!!

GET READY GUYS!
